Gluten-Free London: Dedicated Restaurants, Bakeries and Where Coeliacs Eat Well (2026)
London is one of the best cities in the English-speaking world to eat gluten-free β and, because it’s home, one of the easiest to research. It has a genuine cluster of 100% dedicated gluten-free restaurants and bakeries, a national coeliac charity that runs a restaurant accreditation scheme, and supermarket “free from” ranges that put most countries to shame. You can even get a proper burger and chips.
This is our hand-picked shortlist, not the whole map. We’ve cross-checked each place below against its own website, Coeliac UK and recent coeliac reports on 1 August 2026, and we tell you exactly what each kitchen does β a written protocol is a starting point, not a substitute for a quick word when you order.
How gluten-free works in the UK
The UK keeps the same legal bar as the EU: anything labelled “gluten-free” must contain no more than 20 ppm of gluten. The trust signal to look for is Coeliac UK, the national charity β its GF accreditation scheme certifies venues that follow proper cross-contact procedures, and its app lists them. Britain is also unusually allergy-aware: under “Natasha’s Law”, pre-packed food carries full ingredient labelling, and menus must declare the 14 major allergens, so asking “which dishes contain gluten?” gets you a straight answer almost everywhere.
The dedicated places β 100% gluten-free
Niche (Angel)
The grande dame of gluten-free London: an entirely gluten-free restaurant in Angel, and the first restaurant ever accredited by Coeliac UK, still 100% gluten-free today. Proper sit-down British and European cooking β steak, comfort classics, real puddings β with no gluten in the kitchen at all. 197β199 Rosebery Avenue, EC1R 4TJ. DijΓΆn (Hampstead)
A 100% gluten-free cafΓ© and pizzeria at Hampstead Community Market doing the thing coeliacs miss most: hand-stretched gluten-free pizza, plus focaccia, garlic bread, cakes and pastries β all made in a dedicated gluten-free set-up. 78 Hampstead High Street, NW3 1RE. Accredited and coeliac-aware β mixed kitchens that get it right
Honest Burgers β Coeliac UK-accredited, with a dedicated fryer
A rare treat: a burger and chips you can eat. Honest Burgers is Coeliac UK-accredited, serves its burgers on gluten-free buns, cooks the buns and patties separately, and β the crucial part β fries its rosemary chips in a dedicated gluten-free fryer. Branches all over London. Say you’re coeliac when you order so the kitchen runs the protocol. Source: Coeliac UK accreditation and coeliac community reports, verified 1 Aug 2026.
Rosa’s Thai β a dedicated gluten-free menu
Rice-based Thai food is naturally kind to coeliacs, and Rosa’s runs a full, clearly-marked gluten-free menu β curries, noodle dishes, salads and desserts β and is very allergy-aware. It’s a mixed kitchen rather than a dedicated one, so tell them you’re coeliac and confirm cross-contact handling. Locations across London (Soho, Covent Garden, Angel, Chelsea and more). Self-catering and naturally gluten-free London
UK supermarkets are a coeliac’s friend: Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and M&S all run large certified “free from” ranges (bread, pasta, ready meals, treats). Out and about, London’s rice-based cuisines are natural allies β Thai, and much South Indian cooking (dosa, idli) β though watch naan, samosas, bhajis and soy sauce, and always confirm the fryer. Two British classics to handle with care: fish and chips is battered and usually shares a fryer (seek out a chippy with a dedicated gluten-free fryer), and a Sunday roast is fine bar the Yorkshire pudding and flour-thickened gravy β ask for gluten-free gravy.
Before you go
Britain’s allergen labelling makes London one of the most straightforward cities to eat gluten-free β but a mixed kitchen is still a mixed kitchen, so say clearly you’re coeliac and ask how they avoid cross-contact. Ask for a gluten-free beer or cider by name; most decent bars keep one. And with this many genuinely dedicated venues, you’re rarely far from a good gluten-free option β the Atlas will show you the nearest.
Every venue here was cross-checked on 1 August 2026. Kitchens change; if you spot something that’s moved on, tell us and we’ll re-check β that’s how this guide stays honest.
