Accessibility Statement
We want everyone to be able to use How to Gluten Free β including readers who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, strong contrast or reduced motion. Our community lives with a medical condition; many people also navigate the web with a disability. Both deserve a site that simply works.
What this statement covers
This statement covers howtoglutenfree.com in English, German and Italian, and the HTGF Atlas web app at atlas.howtoglutenfree.com.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA, the standard referenced by EN 301 549 (the European accessibility norm). Measures in place today include:
- Colour contrast reviewed against WCAG AA for text, buttons and interface labels
- Keyboard operability: skip-to-content links, visible focus indicators, and dialogs that keep and return focus correctly
- Screen-reader landmarks, labelled controls and alternative text on images
- Animations switched off automatically when your device asks for reduced motion
- Comfortable touch-target sizes and layouts that work at high zoom and on small screens
Known limitations
- Interactive maps in the Atlas are inherently visual β every place on the map is also available in the list view alongside it
- Some older PDF downloads are not yet fully tagged for screen readers
- Third-party components (cookie consent, embedded content, payment providers) follow their vendors' accessibility
Legal context
How to Gluten Free is run by Andreas Fulde as a sole proprietor β a microenterprise in the sense of the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and the German BarrierefreiheitsstΓ€rkungsgesetz (BFSG). Microenterprises that provide services are exempt from the BFSG's formal obligations. We publish this statement voluntarily, because accessibility matters to our community regardless of what the law asks of a business our size.
