Gluten-free Christmas market at Weingut Kern, Oberderdingen, 12 to 13 December
The short answer
Once a year, Weingut Kern, a winery in Oberderdingen in the Kraichgau between Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, holds a gluten-free Christmas market: the Glutenfreier Weihnachtsmarkt, now in its fourth edition. It runs on one December weekend, 12 and 13 December 2026. At most markets you spend the evening eating around the stalls; a gluten-free market exists to put the Advent treats back on the table. It’s a short trip from Karlsruhe or Stuttgart, and either makes the better base. We haven’t walked this market ourselves yet, so this page sticks to what we can confirm and where to eat around it.

This season’s market
The Glutenfreier Weihnachtsmarkt at Weingut Kern, Sternenfelser Straße 51, 75038 Oberderdingen, runs on the third Advent weekend: Saturday 12 December 2026, 12:00 to 21:00, and Sunday 13 December 2026, 11:00 to 18:00, as the organiser prints them. Official page: weingut-kern.de.

It’s a small event at a winery, not a big-city Christkindlmarkt. If you’ve spent every other market eating around the stalls, this is the kind that’s worth the drive.
What a gluten-free market means here
At an ordinary market, the Advent classics are wheat: standard Lebkuchen are made with cereal or starch, Strauben are a flour batter, and the grilled sausage, whose trade definition lists no cereal, comes in a wheat roll. A gluten-free market is where those things can be made without it. What’s on offer each year is up to the stallholders, so look and ask.
The drinks follow the usual logic. Glühwein is wine, sugar and spices by EU definition, with no gluten-containing ingredient, and the allergen duty still covers a ready spice or punch mix. Roasted chestnuts, coffee and pure teas are gluten-free by nature.
The organiser bills it as a gluten-free Christmas market. We haven’t been in person yet, and we don’t single out stalls, as they change from year to year. As anywhere, tell them you have coeliac disease when you order.
The three questions to ask a stall
Where to eat gluten-free near Oberderdingen
Oberderdingen is a village, and there’s no venue in the village itself on our list. A sit-down gluten-free meal is easiest in the nearby towns or in the base cities. Always tell them you have coeliac disease and confirm how they handle it on the day.
★ Dedicated gluten-free
- Gelateria Gran Caffe, café and gelateria, Kaiserstrasse 43, 76646 Bruchsal. Its own site says it has worked without gluten-containing ingredients since 2026, and asks guests with coeliac disease to speak to the staff before ordering.
Gluten-free options, listed by a directory or Google, not yet checked by us
- Da Peppino, restaurant, Bretten
In the base cities the choice is wider. Karlsruhe has ★ TaquerÃa Taol, a dedicated gluten-free taquerÃa, plus several more places with gluten-free options, and Pforzheim has ★ Vivarepas, dedicated gluten-free. Addresses and the full list are on the Atlas.
Getting there and staying
Treat the market as a day trip and stay in Karlsruhe or Stuttgart, where the restaurants and hotels are. Check the drive or the connection for your date before you set off. We don’t yet have a gluten-free breakfast we can vouch for at a stay near Oberderdingen, so we don’t name one here.
FAQ
Is there really a gluten-free Christmas market at a winery near Karlsruhe?
Yes. Weingut Kern in Oberderdingen holds its fourth Glutenfreier Weihnachtsmarkt on 12 and 13 December 2026: Saturday 12:00 to 21:00 and Sunday 11:00 to 18:00, as the organiser prints them. Details are on the organiser’s site and our events calendar.
Can I eat the Lebkuchen and Strauben there?
That’s the idea of a gluten-free market: the bakes that are wheat everywhere else are the ones it exists to offer without gluten. What’s on offer is up to the stallholders each year, and we haven’t walked this one in person yet, so tell them you have coeliac disease when you order.
Is the Glühwein gluten-free?
By EU definition Glühwein is wine, sugar and spices, with no gluten-containing ingredient. Ask only about a ready spice or punch mix; the allergen duty applies even though the drink carries no ingredient list.
How do I get to Oberderdingen?
It’s a day trip, best from Karlsruhe or Stuttgart. Check the drive or the connection for your date before you set off.
Is this the same as the Black Forest gluten-free market?
No. That’s Sasbachwalden, a separate gluten-free market on earlier Advent weekends. You could plan one for each.
