Gluten-free regional guide · the dedicated kitchens and where to eat around them

Gluten-Free Balearic Islands

Spain treats coeliac disease as the medical condition it is, and it shows across the Balearics: fresh fish and seafood, sofrit, tumbet and grilled meats are naturally gluten-free when a kitchen keeps them clear. The strongest dedicated finds are on Menorca — two entirely gluten-free kitchens — and Ibiza has one, an all-gluten-free bakery. Formentera holds none, and we say so plainly. You can eat well on all three islands with a little planning.

This is not the whole map. Mallorca has its own full guide — so this page covers the other three islands, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera, organised island by island, dedicated kitchens first and then the gluten-free-serving places worth planning around. Everything else lives in the Atlas, one link down.

How to read this guide

We publish evidence, not vibes. Every card carries the tier the Atlas holds, the venue’s own stated handling, a street address from our records, and the date a person last checked it. The ★ is set only by a person at How to Gluten Free — software never sets it, and a community report never earns it. Our four promises are public at howtoglutenfree.com/what-we-promise.

★ DedicatedA kitchen or counter with no gluten in it, as the Atlas holds it.
GF optionA gluten-free option on a mixed menu — ask, and say the sentence.
ACC / ACIBThe venue’s own site (or the association’s own post) names it as advised or accredited by the regional network — ACC on Menorca, ACIB on Ibiza and Formentera — both under the national federation FACE. A network signal, not a guarantee.
Checked online · not visitedA person at HTGF applied our rule to the venue’s own website or listing — nobody stood in the room, so say the sentence at the door.

Mallorca has its own full guide

Eight dedicated gluten-free kitchens and the places to eat around them, from Palma to the Tramuntana, the north and the east coast — more than we could fold into a regional page. If Mallorca is your island, start there.

01 · IBIZA

Ibiza

Ibiza and Formentera share one coeliac network, the Associació de Celíacs de les Illes Balears (ACIB), which sits under the national federation FACE; its ‘asesorado’ (advised) mark means a venue has taken the association’s training and protocols. One entirely gluten-free bakery anchors the island, and a spread of ACIB-linked and gluten-free-serving kitchens runs from Eivissa town out to the villages.

01

Santa Vegana

★ Dedicated

A 100% gluten-free (and vegan) bakery and shop on Santa Eulària’s seafront promenade — the island’s one entirely gluten-free counter, so you order by what looks good rather than by question.

The gluten-free angle

The venue’s own description calls it an ‘Obrador 100% Vegano y Gluten Free Certificado’, and the coeliac press has called it the island’s only fully gluten-free bakery. Nothing on the counter contains wheat.

Order

Anything from the counter — there is no wheat in the building.

Oli Beach

GF optionACIB (Ibiza)

A beachfront restaurant in Figueretes whose own site states ACIB membership and builds its menu around gluten-free options — a reliable sit-down lunch a walk from Eivissa town.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site names Associació de Celíacs de les Illes Balears membership and describes a menu ‘para todos los públicos’ — for every guest, which means a mixed kitchen with gluten-free options, not a dedicated one.

Watch out

A shared kitchen — say the sentence when you order, and ask for the ACIB-linked dishes.

Oli Port

GF optionACIB (Ibiza)

The Eivissa-port sister of Oli Beach, with a menu the group describes as specialised in gluten-free cooking.

The gluten-free angle

Same ACIB-member group; its own site calls the carta ‘especializada en comida sin gluten’. A mixed kitchen with a strong gluten-free focus, not a dedicated one.

Watch out

Still a shared kitchen — say the sentence.

04

Wild Beets

GF option

A plant-based restaurant in the inland village of Santa Gertrudis that labels gluten-free dishes across its menu.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site lists gluten-free among its dietary labels but makes no dedicated-kitchen claim, so treat it as a mixed kitchen with clearly marked options.

Watch out

A shared kitchen despite the labels — say the sentence and ask how each dish is handled.

Fresco

GF option

A café in Eivissa town with a gluten-free option on a mixed menu.

The gluten-free angle

A gluten-free-serving café (checked September 2026) — ask what the day’s gluten-free options are.

Watch out

A shared kitchen — say the sentence.

Don Peppo

GF option

An Italian restaurant in Eivissa town with gluten-free pasta or pizza on request.

The gluten-free angle

A mixed kitchen offering gluten-free pasta or pizza — ask which dishes, and how the pasta water and oven are kept apart.

Watch out

Shared pasta water and a shared oven are the usual traps — say the sentence.

02 · MENORCA

Menorca

Menorca’s coeliac diners are covered by the Associació Celíacs de Catalunya (ACC), which — like ACIB on Ibiza — sits under the national federation FACE. Two entirely gluten-free kitchens anchor the island, one in Maó and one on the Cales Piques strip near Ciutadella, and a run of ACC-linked and gluten-free-serving kitchens fills in Ciutadella, the beaches and the north.

01

El Romero

★ DedicatedACC (Menorca)

A restaurant on Maó’s Plaça de la Conquesta whose own site says the whole kitchen is gluten-free — Menorca’s strongest dedicated find, and Michelin-listed.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site states ‘100% gluten free’ across its menus, and the coeliac press describes it as ACC/FACE-linked. We credit the network link (ACC), not a full FACE seal, until the association’s own register confirms it.

Order

Anything on the menu — the whole kitchen is gluten-free.

Bloome by Sasha

★ Dedicated

A Barcelona brunch-and-bakery brand’s Menorca outpost on the Cales Piques strip near Ciutadella, where the entire menu is gluten-free.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site states ‘Todo nuestro menú es gluten free’, and the coeliac press independently describes a 100% gluten-free menu with ACC’s network behind it. It opened for the 2025/26 season.

Order

Anything on the menu — brunch dishes and the bakery counter are both gluten-free.

Watch out

A seasonal beach-strip venue — check it’s trading before a long detour outside peak season.

Pastisseria Sense Gluten Lluís Febrer

GF option

A Menorcan bakery trading since 1983, with a gluten-free line since 2002, that several coeliac guides describe as a fully gluten-free obrador.

The gluten-free angle

The gluten-free signal is strong — the coeliac press calls it a certified, fully gluten-free obrador — but the bakery’s own About page stops short of saying the whole obrador is gluten-free today. Until that’s confirmed at the source, we hold it as an option rather than a dedicated star.

Order

Bread and pastries — ask whether the whole counter is gluten-free before you buy.

Watch out

Not yet confirmed as fully dedicated — check at the counter before you rely on it.

Racó d’es Palau

GF option

A Ciutadella restaurant carried in the coeliac crowd listings, with an ACC-approval claim not yet confirmed on its own site.

The gluten-free angle

The ACC-approval note comes from crowd listings, not the venue’s own site, so we present it as an option and don’t credit the badge.

Watch out

The association link is a crowd claim only — say the sentence and ask what’s confirmed.

El Pato

GF option

A beach-strip restaurant at Cala en Bosc that a 2026 coeliac guide calls the strongest gluten-free option in the area, with regular coeliac custom.

The gluten-free angle

A 2026 coeliac directory describes it as accredited by partners of the coeliac association and well used by coeliac diners locally; the wording is broad and not yet own-site-confirmed, so we present it as an option.

Watch out

A shared kitchen — say the sentence and ask what’s verified.

Sa Barqueta

GF option

A harbourside seafood restaurant on Es Castell’s Cales Fonts quay with a documented gluten-free option — fresh fish is the natural ground here.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site documents a gluten-free option (read September 2026): a mixed seafood kitchen with a gluten-free choice, not a dedicated one.

Watch out

A shared kitchen — say the sentence and confirm the dish.

Es Cactus

GF optionACC (Menorca)

A restaurant near the Fornells beaches whose own site claims a 2026 ACC accreditation for its gluten-free dishes.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site (read September 2026) states an Associació Celíacs de Catalunya accreditation for 2026 — an accredited but mixed kitchen, not a dedicated one.

Watch out

Accredited-mixed, not dedicated — a shared kitchen, so say the sentence.

Sa Tramuntana

GF optionACC (Menorca)

A restaurant in Punta Prima carrying an ACC agreement, with gluten-free choices marked on its menu.

The gluten-free angle

Independent coeliac guides describe an ACC-accredited menu where gluten-free choices are clearly marked — ‘much of the menu’, not a fully gluten-free kitchen. We present it as an accredited option, not a dedicated star.

Watch out

An accredited but mixed menu, not a dedicated kitchen — say the sentence whatever’s marked.

03 · FORMENTERA

Formentera

Formentera shares Ibiza’s ACIB network and has no separate association. We hold no entirely gluten-free kitchen here, and we would rather say so than stretch a label to fill a chapter. Two gluten-free-serving spots are worth knowing — and the honest pattern is a day trip: Ibiza’s dedicated bakery, Santa Vegana, is a short ferry from La Savina.

01

LadaCrem – Gelateria Artesanal

GF option

An artisan gelateria in Sant Francesc, with a second counter at Es Pujols, whose own site claims an ACIB certification for the gelato counter.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site claims an ACIB certification for the gelato — a gluten-free-serving counter rather than a fully dedicated one, so check how cones and scoops are handled.

Watch out

Shared scoops and cones are the usual gelato trap — ask before you order.

Mar Grossa

GF option

A restaurant in Sant Francesc whose own site describes gluten-free bread on request.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site is live and mentions gluten-free bread on request; we couldn’t confirm a wider gluten-free menu, so treat it as a mixed kitchen with an option.

Watch out

A shared kitchen — say the sentence and confirm the dish.

04 · Plan your trip

Plan your trip

Getting around the islands

  • Ibiza & Formentera are a half-hour ferry apart from La Savina, so a Formentera beach day off Ibiza is realistic — carry food from a dedicated counter first.
  • Menorca and Mallorca are separate flights or longer ferries; plan each as its own trip.
  • Base yourself near your island’s anchor: Santa Eulària on Ibiza (Santa Vegana), Maó or Ciutadella on Menorca (El Romero, Bloome by Sasha).

Gluten-free-aware stays

Dedicated gluten-free stays are rare across the smaller islands. The workable model is a room with a fridge plus a dedicated counter — Santa Vegana on Ibiza — for breakfast and snacks. If a hotel advertises a “gluten-free breakfast”, confirm how it is handled when you book; we have not stood in the breakfast room.

The one sentence to say

Say it before ordering, every time — dedicated kitchen or not.

Soy celíaco/a. No puedo tomar gluten y también tengo que evitar la contaminación con harina de trigo, pan, pasta, migas y el aceite de freír compartido.

I have coeliac disease. I cannot eat gluten, and I also need to avoid cross-contact with wheat flour, bread, pasta, crumbs and shared frying oil.

How cross-contact happens, and how to head it off →

Catalan is the islands’ own language, but Spanish is understood everywhere: sense gluten (Catalan) and sin gluten (Spanish) both mean gluten-free.

Good to know

  • The island bakes are wheat. The spiral ensaïmada and the coca de patata are wheat, and pa amb oli is bread — on every island. Sobrassada on its own is gluten-free but usually arrives on bread.
  • Your reliable ground is what is naturally gluten-free here: fresh fish and seafood, sofrit pagès, tumbet, grilled meats and most rice dishes. Watch shared fryers and flour-thickened sauces.
  • “Sin gluten” means ≤ 20 mg/kg (20 ppm) — the EU and Codex threshold. A label that says it, means it.
  • An ACC or ACIB link tells you a venue has worked with the regional coeliac association — a strong signal in a mixed kitchen, not a guarantee, and never a reason to skip the sentence.
  • New to this? Start with Gluten-Free 101 and Cross-Contact 101 before you travel.
