Gluten-Free Dublin: a dedicated restaurant, café and bakery, and mixed kitchens, for coeliacs

Gluten-free city guide · the places worth planning around

Gluten-Free Dublin

Dublin’s everyday food leans on wheat: soda bread with the chowder, batter on the fish and chips, and chips that often share the fryer. The good news: on this list there is a restaurant, a café and a bakery where everything is gluten-free, and an Irish restaurant with its own coeliac menu at lunch and dinner.

This is a short list on purpose: 8 places whose own website we read on 29 September 2026, each quoted in its own words. Three are entirely gluten-free; the other five say clearly what is gluten-free, but not that everything is. Everything else we track in Dublin is on the live map, one link down.

How to read this guide

We publish evidence, not vibes. Every card carries the venue’s own words about how it handles gluten, a street address from our records, and the date we last checked it. The ★ is set only by a person at How to Gluten Free: software never sets it, and a community report never earns it. Our four promises are public at howtoglutenfree.com/what-we-promise.

★ DedicatedA bakery, kitchen or shop with no gluten in it, in its own words and on our check.
GF-serving · written protocolA kitchen that also cooks with wheat and describes its gluten-free handling in writing.
Checked by us / Checked online“Checked by us” means a person at HTGF checked the venue in person. “Checked online · not visited” means we applied our rule to the venue’s own website or page; nobody stood in the room.
01 · ENTIRELY GLUTEN-FREE

Entirely gluten-free

Three places where everything is gluten-free: a vegetarian restaurant in Dublin 2, a café for bowls, smoothies and bakes, and a bakery you order from ahead.

01

Glas

★ DedicatedRestaurant

A vegetarian and plant-based restaurant in Dublin 2 where the whole menu is gluten-free, cooking a seasonal menu with Irish produce.

The gluten-free angle

Its own menus page: «Our entire menu is gluten-free». It also names an award from the Irish coeliac association: «Best Practice in Gluten Free Catering – Coeliac Society of Ireland».

Order

The evening menu, two or three courses, or lunch at the weekend.

Watch out

Lunch is Friday to Sunday only (from 12 pm, last booking 2.45 pm); an early-bird menu runs Sunday to Thursday from 5 pm. Bookings take a deposit of €20 a head, and children under 10 are not admitted at dinner. The menu is vegetarian and plant-based.

Nobó Treathouse

★ DedicatedCafé & treats

Nobó’s own café and shop, for açaí bowls, smoothies, porridge and bakes made every morning, plus its dairy-free ice cream and chocolates.

The gluten-free angle

Its own page: «Everything we make is always dairy-free, gluten-free, and refined sugar free.»

Order

An açaí bowl or one of the morning bakes, with a coffee.

Watch out

Porridge is on the menu and the site does not say which oats it uses: if oats don’t suit you, ask. Its site places the café in both Rathmines and Ranelagh; the street is Dunville Avenue. Open 7.30 am to 4.30 pm on weekdays, from 8 am on Saturday and 8.30 am on Sunday.

Só Gluten Free

★ DedicatedBakery (order ahead)

A gluten-free bakery for tarts, loaves and celebration cakes. It is a bakery that works to order, not a café or restaurant: you order ahead and collect, or buy its bakes from the cafés and shops that stock them.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site: «Suitable for Coeliacs» and «Fully Gluten Free Facility».

Order

An apple crumble tart, a Bakewell tart or the banana loaf, or a celebration cake ordered ahead.

Watch out

No walk-in counter is mentioned: you order by email through its site, and bespoke cakes need at least three working days’ notice and a collection date. The site gives no opening hours, so arrange collection when you order. Its site lists the stockists.

02 · MIXED KITCHENS WITH A GLUTEN-FREE MENU

Mixed kitchens with a gluten-free menu

An Irish restaurant with its own coeliac menu, a fish-and-chip shop with a gluten- and wheat-free menu, and an Italian small-plates bar with gluten-free options. These kitchens also cook with wheat, so the sentence matters every time.

04

The Millstone Restaurant

GF-servingIrish restaurant

A long-running Irish restaurant on Dame Street with a separate coeliac menu at lunch and dinner: steaks, salmon, lamb shank and burgers on gluten-free buns.

The gluten-free angle

Its own page: «Millstone Restaurant has a dedicated coeliac menu, available for both lunch and dinner, seven days a week.»

Order

A steak from the coeliac menu, or the seafood chowder with gluten-free bread.

Watch out

Its own page says it is «not an allergen-free environment», and chips and frites are on the coeliac menu with no word on the fryer: ask whether it is used only for gluten-free food. Coeliac lunch 12 pm to 4 pm, seven days.

Beshoff Bros

GF-servingFish & chips

Fish and chips with a separate gluten- and wheat-free menu: cod, haddock, hake, scampi, calamari and goujons.

The gluten-free angle

Its own page: «Our great Gluten and Wheat Free menu is served every day at our Clontarf, Dame Street, Malahide and Mespil Road stores.»

Order

Gluten-free cod or haddock with chips.

Watch out

Its site does not say how the gluten-free fish is fried: ask whether the fryer is used only for gluten-free food, every time. This card is Mespil Road, open daily 12 pm to 10 pm. The gluten-free page also names Clontarf, Malahide and Dame Street, but its stores page no longer lists Dame Street, and Howth is not on the gluten-free list.

Aperitivo

GF-servingItalian small plates

An Italian restaurant and wine bar on Nassau Street, for Venetian-style cicchetti small plates and fresh pasta, with gluten-free options on a menu that changes every week.

The gluten-free angle

Its own menu page: «Gluten free options are available too.»

Order

Ask which of the week’s dishes come gluten-free; its menus mark them with an asterisk.

Watch out

A mixed Italian kitchen with fresh wheat pasta and fried dishes. One fried fish in panko crumb shows no gluten code on its allergen list, although panko is usually wheat: so ask about every fried dish and the fryer, and whether gluten-free pasta gets its own pot and water. Open daily 12.30 pm to 11 pm, closed on bank holidays.

03 · SHOPS FOR YOUR OWN KITCHEN

Shops for your own kitchen

If you have a kitchen: a supermarket with a published list of gluten-free own-brand products, and a butcher whose burgers and meats are gluten-free.

07

SuperValu Raheny

GF-servingSupermarket

A supermarket from an Irish chain that publishes a list of its own-brand products that are gluten-free, useful for stocking up.

The gluten-free angle

The chain’s own page lists «SuperValu own brand products that are suitable for Coeliacs or people limiting their intake of gluten».

Order

Packaged staples from the chain’s gluten-free own-brand list.

Watch out

The list is the chain’s, not this store’s, and its own page says products may not be available in every store: check the label on each pack. We did not find this store’s opening hours on its own page.

Dublin Meat Company Artane

GF-servingButcher & ready meals

A butcher and ready-meal shop in Artane, useful if you have a kitchen: its burgers and meats are gluten-free, and so are most of its ready meals.

The gluten-free angle

Its own FAQ: «All our burgers and meats are gluten free. 10 out of our 14 Fit Food Ready Meals are also GF and clearly marked.»

Order

Burgers or meat to cook yourself, or a ready meal marked GF.

Watch out

Four of its fourteen ready meals are not gluten-free: take the ones marked GF. Click and collect runs Monday to Friday 8 am to 7 pm, Saturday 8 am to 6 pm and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm. It also has shops in Drogheda and Swords.

04 · Plan your trip

Plan your trip

Where to base yourself

  • Dublin 2: Glas on Chatham Street, The Millstone on Dame Street and Aperitivo on Nassau Street (chapters 1 and 2).
  • Dublin 4 and Dublin 6: Beshoff Bros on Mespil Road, and Nobó Treathouse on Dunville Avenue in Rathmines (chapters 1 and 2).
  • Dublin 5: SuperValu in Raheny and Dublin Meat Company in Artane, for stocking a kitchen (chapter 3).
  • Order ahead: Só Gluten Free bakes to order at its bakery on the Navan Road; arrange collection when you order (chapter 1).

We haven’t checked a Dublin hotel kitchen ourselves. When you book, ask about gluten-free breakfast and how the kitchen keeps it apart, and pick a room with a fridge or a kitchen: Só Gluten Free (chapter 1) bakes to order, and the two shops in chapter 3 cover the rest.

The one sentence to say

Say it before ordering, every time, dedicated kitchen or not. In Ireland, “coeliac” is the word staff know.

I have coeliac disease. I can’t eat gluten: no wheat, barley, rye, malt or ordinary oats, and nothing cooked in shared fryer oil or on a surface with flour or crumbs.

Get the dining card with the follow-up questions →

Two follow-ups that help. For anything fried: “Is the fryer used only for gluten-free food?” For sauces and batters: “Is there any malt, beer or soy sauce in this?”

Good to know

  • “Gluten-free” on a label means no more than 20 mg/kg (20 ppm), the EU rule (Regulation (EU) No 828/2014).
  • “Very low gluten” is not gluten-free. It allows up to 100 mg/kg, and applies to specially processed wheat, rye, barley or oat ingredients.
  • Oats in a gluten-free food must be specially produced to keep them under 20 mg/kg. Ordinary oats are not; if oats don’t suit you, ask about porridge, granola and baking.
  • Chips are the classic trap. Many kitchens fry them in the same oil as battered fish or breaded food. Ask about the fryer every time.

Closures and lost dedicated status are logged as dated facts on the live page, never as judgements. A closed door, a changed menu, a new dedicated place: hello@howtoglutenfree.com or the report button in the app. Readers keep this page alive.

Every listing carries a source and a last-checked date. This guide is a communication and travel aid, not a guarantee, and not medical advice. Kitchens, owners and ways of working change; check at the door.

  • Addresses and dates: HTGF Atlas (human-checked rows only), read 29 September 2026.
  • Each venue’s gluten-free handling is quoted from its own website or page as we found it; we never print a third party’s claims as our own check.
  • Map links open a Google Maps search for the name and address on file; where a postcode isn’t on file, none is shown.
