Naples Β· gluten-free pizza

In Naples, gluten-free pizza comes from pizzerias that also bake with wheat, so the question that matters is how they keep it apart. This page lists 9 pizzerias that describe their gluten-free pizza on their own websites (◐): 3 say it has an oven of its own, and one of them also runs a second kitchen. A further 15 are listed by a directory or an online map listing, and we haven’t checked them yet.

How gluten-free pizza works in Naples

Neapolitan pizza is born in a wood-fired oven that bakes hundreds of wheat pizzas a night, with flour in the air. So a gluten-free pizza only makes sense if the pizzeria really keeps it away from the rest: an oven used only for gluten-free, a second kitchen, or at least its own counter and tools. Some pizzerias on this page say so on their own sites; others only say the pizza also comes gluten-free.

Then there is AIC, the Italian coeliac association, and its eating-out programme (Alimentazione Fuori Casa). To join, a venue has to β€œavere partecipato ad un corso su celiachia e dieta gluten-free organizzato dalle AIC Locali” (take a course on coeliac disease and the gluten-free diet run by a local AIC branch), and the local AIC then inspects it, β€œche svolge almeno una volta all’anno un sopralluogo approfondito dell’esercizio” (an in-depth visit at least once a year). If a place says it is in the AIC network, you can check it in AIC’s own search or app; if it only calls itself a “partner”, that is its own word, not a membership we have seen.

Before you order, ask three things. Does the gluten-free pizza have its own oven, or how do you bake it? Is the dough gluten-free (not “senza frumento”, wheat-free, and not kamut, which is a wheat)? And do fried things, from montanara to fried pizza, go into a fryer used only for gluten-free? Always say you have coeliac disease, not just that you avoid gluten.

◐ Gluten-free pizza in pizzerias that also use wheat

In order: first the places that describe an oven or a kitchen for gluten-free, then the ones that only say the pizza is available. What we write comes from their own websites.

  1. Mascagni

    ◐ GF-serving Pizzeria Β· restaurant

πŸ“ Via Pietro Mascagni 42, 80127 Napoli Β· Vomero Β· Open in Google Maps β†—

Serves: A Vomero pizzeria with a gluten-free choice on every course, from starters and pizza to dessert and beer.

How they handle it: Its own site: β€œLe pizze vengono cotte in un forno a legna separato e dedicato esclusivamente al GLUTEN FREE” (pizzas are baked in a separate wood oven used only for gluten-free), β€œattivo tutti i giorni sia a pranzo che a cena” (running every day, lunch and dinner).

Watch out: Closed on Wednesdays. The kitchen also cooks with wheat: ask for the gluten-free menu and say you have coeliac disease.

  2. Mama Eat Napoli

◐ GF-serving AIC partner Neapolitan pizzeria

πŸ“ Via Manzoni 6A, 80123 Napoli Β· Posillipo, Via Manzoni Β· Open in Google Maps β†—

Serves: The whole menu also comes gluten-free, pizza included.

How they handle it: The chain states β€œDue cucine, due forni per pizza, due chef e due team.” (two kitchens, two pizza ovens, two chefs and two teams), and gluten-free dishes come on clear or coloured plates. It calls itself a partner of AIC.

Watch out: These are the chain’s words for all its branches. Two kitchens under one roof: say you have coeliac disease every time you order.

  3. Pizzaioli Veraci

    ◐ GF-serving Neapolitan pizzeria Β· 3 addresses

Serves: Neapolitan pizza with a wide gluten-free selection on the menu.

How they handle it: Its own site says it uses β€œutilizzando un forno ed un banco dedicato al Gluten Free” (an oven and a counter kept for gluten-free). When we ate at Pizzaioli Veraci in September 2026, the gluten-free pizzas came from a completely separate second kitchen.

Watch out: The site’s words cover all three addresses. The main kitchen still bakes wheat pizza: confirm yours is made and baked on the gluten-free side.

How they handle it: For Bagnoli, its site describes a place β€œcon forno a vista e una zona interamente dedicata al gluten free” (with an open oven and a zone given over entirely to gluten-free). For Santa Lucia it says the place β€œoffre un servizio gluten free sia per le pizze che per i dolci” (serves gluten-free for pizza and desserts), with no word on the oven.

Watch out: At Santa Lucia, ask how the gluten-free pizza is baked before you order.

How they handle it: It calls itself specialised in gluten-free pizza and cooking, but doesn’t describe the oven or the kitchen.

Watch out: It is also a friggitoria (a fried-food counter), and the site says nothing about a fryer kept for gluten-free.

Watch out: For fried pizza the fryer is everything: ask whether the gluten-free one is fried in oil used only for gluten-free.

Questions

Is gluten-free pizza in Naples safe for coeliacs?

It depends on the pizzeria, not the city. All 9 pizzerias on this page also bake with wheat. Mascagni, Mama Eat and Pizzaioli Veraci say on their own sites that the gluten-free pizza has its own oven. Say you have coeliac disease and ask how your pizza is baked.

What does the “AIC network” mean for a pizzeria?

That the venue has joined the eating-out programme of the Italian coeliac association, AIC: it has taken a course on coeliac disease and the gluten-free diet, follows AIC’s rules and gets a visit from the local AIC at least once a year. You can check it in AIC’s own search or app. A pizzeria that only calls itself an AIC “partner” is not necessarily in the network.

Can I eat gluten-free fried pizza in Naples?

Yes, where it exists and the fryer is used only for gluten-free. Isabella De Cham in the SanitΓ  says on its menu that every fried pizza also comes gluten-free, but its site says nothing about the fryer: ask before you order.

Where is there a pizzeria with an oven used only for gluten-free?

In the Vomero, at Mascagni on Via Pietro Mascagni (a separate wood oven, lunch and dinner) and at Pizzaioli Veraci on Via Scarlatti, which has two more addresses on Via Toledo and in Fuorigrotta; in Posillipo, at Mama Eat on Via Manzoni (two kitchens and two ovens).
