Are tater tots gluten-free? Often, check the bag and the fryer
Often, but not always. Tater tots are grated potato shaped into small cylinders and fried.
What to check
- Frozen bags: many list only potato, oil and seasoning. Some add wheat flour as a binder or coating, or malt in the seasoning. Read the ingredients.
- Restaurants: tots usually share a fryer with breaded food. Ask whether they have a separate fryer.
- Loaded tots with gravy, cheese sauce or crispy onions: check each topping.
