Are hash browns gluten-free? Homemade usually, eating out check
They can be. A hash brown is grated potato fried in oil, which is gluten-free. What changes the answer is what gets added and where it is cooked.
What to check
- Frozen hash browns: some add wheat flour as a binder. Read the ingredients.
- Fast food and breakfast places: some list wheat in a flavouring, and many fry hash browns in oil shared with breaded items. Ask about both.
- Cafรฉs: hash browns cooked on a flat grill next to toast can pick up crumbs.
