Gluten-Free Naples & the Bay: Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Pompeii (2026)

Gluten-free regional guide · the coast, the islands and the ruins around Naples

Gluten-Free Naples & the Bay

The Bay of Naples rewards a coeliac who plans by area. Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Ischia and Pompeii each hold gluten-free kitchens worth building a day around — and a handful are genuinely dedicated, entirely gluten-free. The one caveat: this is scattered coastline, so pin your stops and pack for the travel days.

This guide covers the bay around Naples, not the city itself. For the city — the centro storico, the Vomero, the dedicated pizzerias and bakeries of Naples proper — we keep a separate free guide: gluten-free Naples. Below are the coast and the islands, organised by area, with the dedicated kitchens first. This is not the whole map; everything else we track lives in the Atlas, one link down.

How to read this guide

We publish evidence, not vibes. Every card carries the tier the Atlas holds, whether the kitchen is entirely gluten-free or a mixed one with a gluten-free option, the town it sits in, and the date a person last checked it. The ★ is set only by a person at How to Gluten Free — software never sets it, and a community report never earns it. Our four promises are public at howtoglutenfree.com/what-we-promise.

★ DedicatedAn entirely gluten-free kitchen or counter, with no wheat on site, as the Atlas holds it.
GF-servingA kitchen that also cooks with wheat and offers a gluten-free option. Careful ones — but say the sentence, every time.
Checked online · not visitedA person at HTGF applied our rule to the venue’s own website or map entry; nobody has stood in the room. We tell you which, and we never imply more depth than we hold.

Heading into the city? This page is the bay around Naples. For gluten-free Naples itself — the pizza pilgrimage, the old centre and the city’s own dedicated addresses — see our free gluten-free Naples guide.

01 · SORRENTO & THE PENINSULA

Sorrento & the peninsula

The busiest base on the bay, and the easiest place to start. Sorrento and the towns along the Sorrentine peninsula — Sant’Agnello, Piano di Sorrento, Vico Equense, Massa Lubrense — hold the guide’s densest cluster for a coeliac, including a dedicated seafood kitchen, a dedicated gelato counter and even a gluten-free cooking school.

01

O’ Fish Seafood Bar

★ DedicatedSeafood · lunch & dinner

A wholly gluten-free seafood bar in Sorrento — the kind of address a coeliac plans a peninsula trip around, where the menu is yours end to end and the sentence does less of the work.

The gluten-free angle

Our Atlas holds this as a dedicated, entirely gluten-free kitchen (★) — human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited. No software set the ★, and no community report earned it. As anywhere, confirm the fully gluten-free set-up when you book.

Order

Fried fish and seafood are the reason to come — the fryer here isn’t a shared one. Ask what’s landed that day.

02

Cafiero Gelato

★ DedicatedGelato

A dedicated gluten-free gelato counter in Piano di Sorrento, a few minutes up the coast from Sorrento — the rare gelateria where a coeliac can take a cone, not just a cup, and order by flavour without the usual checklist.

The gluten-free angle

Our Atlas holds this as a dedicated, gluten-free counter (★) — human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited. No software set the ★. Confirm the fully gluten-free set-up on the day, as you would anywhere.

Order

A cone — the thing a coeliac usually skips — and whichever flavour they’re proud of that day.

03

Nonna Flora — Sorrento Family Cooking School

★ DedicatedCooking class

A family cooking school in Sorrento that our Atlas holds as dedicated gluten-free — an afternoon making Sorrentine dishes with your own hands rather than negotiating them across a counter, and a genuinely different thing to do on a coeliac trip.

The gluten-free angle

Our Atlas holds this as dedicated gluten-free (★) — human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited. No software set the ★. It’s a class rather than a restaurant, so confirm the gluten-free format and what’s cooked when you book.

Order

Book ahead and say it’s for a coeliac; ask which classic dishes the session covers so you know what you’ll carry home.

04

Frankie’s Pizza Bar Sorrento

GF-servingPizza

A pizza bar in the middle of Sorrento that keeps a gluten-free line — the casual, central evening where a coeliac gets the Neapolitan pizza everyone else is having, a short walk from the old town.

The gluten-free angle

A mixed pizzeria that our Atlas holds as gluten-free-serving, its listing flagging a gluten-free (and vegan) menu (human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited) — a gluten-free option, not a dedicated kitchen. A wheat pizza oven runs alongside, so say the sentence and confirm the gluten-free dough is made and fired apart.

Order

A gluten-free pizza from the separate dough; ask that it’s shaped on a clean surface and fired on a dedicated tray or peel, away from the wheat line.

Watch out

A flour-dusted counter and a shared oven — say the sentence and confirm the separate dough, tray and preparation before you order.

05

Ristorante Pizzeria Emilia

GF-servingPizza & Neapolitan

A restaurant-pizzeria in Massa Lubrense, out at the quiet tip of the peninsula beyond Sorrento — a mixed kitchen with a gluten-free option, the sort of local table worth the drive when you want the coast without the crowds.

The gluten-free angle

A mixed kitchen that our Atlas holds as gluten-free-serving (human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited) — a gluten-free option, not a dedicated kitchen. It works with wheat pasta, bread and pizza, so say the sentence and ask which plates are made gluten-free and kept apart.

Order

A gluten-free pizza or a naturally gluten-free fish or grill; confirm the base and the pan are kept clear of the wheat line.

Watch out

A kitchen also cooking wheat pizza and pasta — say the sentence and confirm each plate’s preparation, not just the menu label.

02 · THE AMALFI COAST

The Amalfi Coast

The cliff-hung towns from Positano east to Vietri — Positano, Praiano, Amalfi, Atrani, Ravello above the sea, and the sweet-toothed villages of Minori and Maiori. It’s a stretch built on bread, pastry and fresh wheat pasta, so a coeliac plans carefully; these are the mixed kitchens that make it workable, plus a dedicated gluten-free B&B to base yourself.

06

VENUS Inn B&B Positano

★ DedicatedStay · B&B

A bed-and-breakfast in Positano that our Atlas holds as dedicated gluten-free — the standout place to base yourself on this coast, where the first meal of the day is simply yours instead of a buffet you can’t vouch for.

The gluten-free angle

Our Atlas holds this as dedicated gluten-free (★) — human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited. No software set the ★. It’s a stay rather than a restaurant, so confirm the gluten-free breakfast and kitchen handling when you book.

Book

Say you’re coeliac when you reserve; ask how breakfast is prepared and whether they can point you to gluten-free lunches nearby.

The gluten-free angle

A mixed kitchen that our Atlas holds as gluten-free-serving (human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited) — a gluten-free option, not a dedicated kitchen. Amalfi Coast cooking leans on wheat pasta and bread, so say the sentence and confirm each plate.

Order

A naturally gluten-free fish or grill, or a marked gluten-free pasta; confirm the pan and the water are kept clear of wheat.

Watch out

A busy kitchen cooking wheat pasta and bread a metre away — say the sentence and confirm the preparation, not just the menu.

Pasticceria Sal De Riso

GF-servingSweet · pasticceria

The celebrated Amalfi Coast pastry house in Minori, on the seafront between Amalfi and Maiori — a mixed counter that keeps a gluten-free option, a chance at a coast pastry a coeliac usually only watches others eat. (The same name runs a ristorante & bistrot in Minori too.)

The gluten-free angle

A mixed pasticceria that our Atlas holds as gluten-free-serving (human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited) — a gluten-free option, not a dedicated counter. The counter is built on wheat pastry, so say the sentence and ask for the gluten-free item, packaged and kept apart.

Order

Ask which pastries or cakes are made gluten-free and stored clear of the wheat counter; take a certified item to carry.

Watch out

Flour and crumbs across a busy pastry counter — say the sentence and keep to the items they confirm gluten-free and separately handled.

A’Paranza

The gluten-free angle

A mixed kitchen that our Atlas holds as gluten-free-serving (human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited) — a gluten-free option, not a dedicated kitchen. A seafood kitchen still works with wheat pasta, bread and a fryer, so say the sentence and ask which plates are made gluten-free and kept apart.

Order

A grilled or baked fish and a naturally gluten-free side; ask about the fryer before anything fried.

Watch out

Wheat pasta and a shared fryer in a small kitchen — say the sentence, confirm each plate, and check the fryer.

03 · CAPRI

Capri

The island a ferry-hop off the peninsula — the glossy Piazzetta of Capri town and quieter Anacapri up the hill. Prices run high and the crowds run thick, but a few mixed kitchens keep a gluten-free option, so a day trip needn’t mean going hungry.

12

Buonocore

GF-servingGelato & café

A café and gelato counter a step from the Piazzetta in Capri town — a mixed counter that keeps a gluten-free option, the sweet stop on the island’s busiest little square.

The gluten-free angle

A mixed café that our Atlas holds as gluten-free-serving (human-verified, checked online 8 September 2026, not visited) — a gluten-free option, not a dedicated counter. Most artisan gelato is naturally gluten-free, but the wafer cones, biscuit flavours and wheat pastries are the trap, so take a cup and confirm the flavour.

Order

A cup, not a cone; ask which flavours are gluten-free and request a fresh scoop and spoon from a clean tub.

Watch out

A shared counter with wheat cones, pastries and biscuit toppings — say the sentence, take a cup, and confirm the flavour.

06 · Plan your trip

Plan your trip

Where to base yourself

  • Sorrento & the peninsula — the easiest base and best transport hub: the dedicated O’ Fish and Cafiero Gelato, plus pizza and the wider peninsula a short hop away. Ferries to Capri and the islands leave from here.
  • The Amalfi Coast (Positano · Amalfi · Ravello) — the most beautiful and the most careful eating; base at the dedicated VENUS Inn B&B in Positano and plan lunches around the towns above.
  • The islands (Capri · Ischia · Procida) — day trips or overnights by ferry; Ischia has the dedicated Gasparotto café to anchor a day.
  • Pompeii & the eastern shore — the strongest corner for a coeliac, with a dedicated pizzeria (La Gare) and a dedicated shop (l’angolo delle delizie); easy on the Circumvesuviana.

Gluten-free-aware stays

The standout is VENUS Inn B&B in Positano, which our Atlas holds as dedicated gluten-free (carded above). A few coastal hotels are human-verified as gluten-free-serving; none is AIC-accredited in our records and we haven’t stood in the breakfast room, so confirm the gluten-free breakfast when you book.

  • ○ Hotel Bellevue Syrene — Sorrento · gluten-free-serving HTGF Atlas · checked online, 8 September 2026
  • ○ Hotel Posa Posa — Positano · gluten-free-serving HTGF Atlas · checked online, 8 September 2026
  • ○ Z’Intonio Hotel — Ravello · gluten-free-serving HTGF Atlas · checked online, 8 September 2026

For self-catering, the reliable model is a room with a fridge plus a dedicated stop: l’angolo delle delizie in Ercolano for gluten-free bread and staples, Celiachia Shop in Castellammare di Stabia, or Di Massa Pastry on Ischia; pharmacies (farmacie) carry certified packaged staples too.

The one sentence to say

Say it before ordering, every time — dedicated kitchen or not.

Sono celiaco/a. Non posso mangiare glutine e devo evitare anche la contaminazione con farina di grano, pane, pasta, pizza, briciole e olio di frittura condiviso.

I have coeliac disease. I cannot eat gluten, and I also need to avoid cross-contact with wheat flour, bread, pasta, pizza, crumbs and shared frying oil.

Two more that go a long way: La cucina è interamente senza glutine? — “Is the kitchen entirely gluten-free?” — and birra senza glutine when you want a beer.

Good to know

  • “Senza glutine” means ≤ 20 mg/kg (20 ppm) — the EU and Codex threshold. A label that says it, means it.
  • This coast runs on wheat. The sfogliatella, the delizia al limone sponge, fried pizza and zeppole, and fresh pastas like scialatielli all carry wheat. Naturally gluten-free ground: grilled and baked fish and seafood, the insalata caprese (mozzarella and tomato), lemon granita and most Neapolitan grills. More in whether coeliacs can eat bread in Italy.
  • AIC affiliation is a strong signal, not a guarantee. A venue trained by the Italian coeliac association (AIC) follows documented cross-contact procedures — worth knowing in a mixed kitchen, and never a reason to skip the sentence. We credit a badge only from a venue’s own claim, and none of the venues above carries one in our records.
  • Gelato is mostly naturally gluten-free, but the cones, biscuit inclusions and a shared scoop are the trap — keep to a cup, ask for a fresh spoon, and check the flavour (or head to the dedicated Cafiero counter).
  • Getting around is boats and one train. Ferries and hydrofoils link Naples, Sorrento and the islands; the Circumvesuviana train runs Naples–Pompeii–Sorrento. There’s little gluten-free on the move, so pack food from a dedicated shop for travel days.
  • New to gluten-free travel? Start with our gluten-free 101 and how cross-contact works before you go.
