Gluten-Free Trento: gelato, a gluten-free shop and pizza for coeliacs

Gluten-free city guide Β· the places worth planning around

Gluten-Free Trento

This guide to gluten-free Trento lists 9 places: 4 marked β€œβ˜… Dedicated” and 5 marked β€œGF-serving”. Every card gives the street address, what to order and how we know it: 6 checked on their own website and 3 listed by a directory (not yet checked by us); the guide was last updated in October 2026. Say you have coeliac disease every time you order, at a β˜… place too.

Trento’s cooking leans on bread and wheat: canederli, the dumplings of Trentino, are made from stale bread, and apple strudel is wrapped in wheat pastry. What the city does have is a gelateria and a bakery that are entirely gluten-free by their own words, a gluten-free deli, a shop for gluten-free food, and several pizzerias with a gluten-free line of their own.

This is a short list on purpose: 9 places whose own website, menu, booking page or social page we read on 29 September or 9 October 2026. Four are entirely gluten-free by their own words or their own name; the rest are mixed kitchens with a clear gluten-free line. Everything else we track in Trento is on the live map, one link down.

How to read this guide

We publish evidence, not vibes. Every card carries the venue’s own words about how it handles gluten, a street address, and the date we last checked it. The β˜… is set by How to Gluten Free from the venue’s own published words, and a community report never earns it. Our four promises are public at howtoglutenfree.com/what-we-promise.

β˜… DedicatedA bakery, kitchen or shop with no gluten in it, in its own published words.
GF-serving Β· written protocolA kitchen that also cooks with wheat and describes its gluten-free handling in writing.
AIC networkThe venue’s own site or page states an AIC link: staff trained by the Italian coeliac association. Never a reason to skip the sentence.
AIC Β· AFC accreditedThe venue’s own site claims AIC’s Alimentazione Fuori Casa (AFC) accreditation, the association’s formal eating-out programme.
Visited / Own website / ListedEach place says how we know it. β€œVisited by us”: someone from HTGF was there in the month shown (a visit, not a lab test). β€œChecked on its own website”: we read the venue’s own gluten-free wording in the month shown. β€œListed by” and the name of a coeliac association (AIC, Coeliac UK and others): that association lists the place. β€œListed by a directory”: a gluten-free directory lists it and we have not read it at the source yet.

Trento on foot, gluten-free

Trento’s centre is compact, and most of the places on this page are in it or just around it. Piazza Duomo, with the cathedral, the Neptune Fountain and the Torre Civica, is the middle of it all; Via Belenzani, lined with painted Renaissance faΓ§ades, runs up to it, and the Castello del Buonconsiglio is about 10 minutes on foot to the north-east. PassΓΉ is on Via Dietro le Mura, about 5 minutes on foot from Piazza Duomo; Milli Eat & Drink on Via del Suffragio and Bouganville on Via Petrarca are each about 5 minutes on foot from the Castello; and Fior di Gusto, the entirely gluten-free gelateria, is on Via Grazioli, about 10 minutes on foot east of Piazza Duomo. Korallo is further east, on Via Venezia, about 10 to 15 minutes on foot from the Castello. To the south, MUSE and Palazzo delle Albere in the Le Albere district are about 10 to 15 minutes on foot from Piazza Duomo, and Urban House is a few minutes on foot from MUSE. Across the river are Doss Trento and the Gallerie di Piedicastello, and the cable car to Sardagna leaves from the riverside, about 10 minutes on foot from Piazza Duomo. The one place out of walking range is GlutenFreeWorld, the entirely gluten-free shop: it is in Gardolo, north of the centre, a bus ride away. The railway station is about 10 minutes on foot from Piazza Duomo (the cathedral puts it at about 500 metres). All walking times are our estimate.

A day that works (not a Monday, when the Castello and MUSE are usually closed): start at the Castello del Buonconsiglio when it opens, and book a slot for the Cycle of the Months frescoes in Torre Aquila. Walk down to Piazza Duomo, about 10 minutes on foot by our estimate, for the Neptune Fountain, the cathedral and the painted houses along Via Belenzani. From there MUSE is about 10 to 15 minutes on foot to the south: first have a late brunch at Urban House, a few minutes from the museum, from its separate gluten-free menu; it is a mixed kitchen, so ask whether there is a fryer just for gluten-free before you order anything fried. Spend the afternoon at MUSE, with a ticket bought online, and at Palazzo delle Albere a few steps away. Walk back to Fior di Gusto, about 20 minutes on foot by our estimate, where the gelato, the semifreddi and the cakes are all gluten-free; it is seasonal and a closure in winter is normal, so check its site first. Dinner is about 5 minutes on foot away at PassΓΉ, a mixed pizzeria with a gluten-free dough made from buckwheat and maize flour and gluten-free beer on tap; ask how the gluten-free pizza is prepared and baked.

Across Italy, many places belong to the coeliac association’s eating-out programme, Alimentazione Fuori Casa (AFC). AIC calls them Β«informatiΒ», informed: staff trained on coeliac disease, AIC’s rules for preparing gluten-free food, a signed agreement, and an in-depth visit from AIC at least once a year. It is not a certificate, and joining is voluntary: plenty of kitchens serve gluten-free food outside it. In Trentino, the owner and the cook, pizza maker or gelato maker take a basic course, AIC Trentino’s volunteer tutors follow up in the venue and check the service in practice, the venue signs a protocol, and the tutors keep monitoring it; a member receives the AFC sticker for its entrance, so look for it at the door. AIC Trentino also makes a point worth knowing: an AFC place does not need a separate kitchen or special equipment, only set procedures to keep gluten-free food from contamination, such as a shared oven used in turns with high-sided trays. So the sticker means trained procedures, not a gluten-free kitchen. AIC Trentino adds that almost every restaurant now says it can cater for coeliacs, but mistakes are often made through poor knowledge of how a gluten-free meal must be prepared. AIC’s list of member places is for its members, but visitors can buy AIC Mobile Welcome, a 15-day version of the AIC Mobile app, also in English. AIC advises booking ahead so the kitchen can get ready. When you book, and every time you order, say you have coeliac disease: Β«Sono celiacoΒ» or Β«Sono celiacaΒ».

Trentino’s own food is where the traps are. Canederli, the local dumplings, are made from stale bread, often with flour too, and apple strudel is wrapped in wheat pastry. Polenta is maize and comes with many dishes, but ask whether it is cooked and served apart from anything floured. Every pizzeria on this page also bakes with wheat, so ask Β«Come preparate la pizza senza glutine? Impasto, banco e forno sono separati?Β» (how do you make the gluten-free pizza? Are the dough, the work surface and the oven kept separate?). At Milli Eat & Drink only the pizzas are marked gluten-free, not the kitchen menu, and for anything fried, anywhere, ask Β«C’Γ¨ una friggitrice dedicata al senza glutine?Β» (is there a fryer just for gluten-free?). Two events fill the centre this season: Autumnus, the food and wine festival, brings markets and tastings to the historic centre from 1 to 11 October 2026, and the Christmas market runs from 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027 in Piazza Fiera and Piazza Mostra. We haven’t looked at the food stalls at either, so say the sentence at every one. For staples, GlutenFreeWorld in Gardolo is closed on Mondays, and pharmacies (farmacie) carry gluten-free food too.

01 Β· ENTIRELY GLUTEN-FREE: GELATO, BAKERY, DELI & A SHOP

Entirely gluten-free: gelato, bakery, deli & a shop

Four places in Trento are gluten-free all the way through, by their own words or their own name: a gelateria that also makes cakes, a shop for gluten-free food in Gardolo, a small bakery that is plant-based too, and a deli in the old town.

01

Fior di Gusto

β˜… DedicatedGelato & cakes

A gelateria that also makes semifreddi and cakes, all of it gluten-free.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site: Β«Dal 2022 la gelateria Γ¨ totalmente senza glutine.Β», since 2022 the whole gelateria has been gluten-free, under the line Β«Tutto senza glutine.Β»

Order

A gelato, or one of their cakes to take away.

Watch out

It is seasonal: its own hours read Β«Orario da marzo a maggio e da settembre a fine stagioneΒ», so a closure in winter is normal. Check their site before a special trip.

La Gastronomia Senza Glutine Cirilli

β˜… DedicatedDeli & bakes

A gluten-free deli in the old town, opened in 2024 by a family of bakers, with artisan gluten-free products to eat or take away.

The gluten-free angle

Its own Facebook page: Β«nel 2024 apre “La Gastronomia Senza Glutine”, offrendo prodotti artigianali senza glutineΒ», artisan gluten-free products, and the name says it.

Order

Something savoury from the counter, or baked goods for the trip.

Watch out

The same family runs a regular bakery, Panificio Cirilli, across the street at no. 47: make sure you are in the gluten-free shop at no. 40.

02 Β· PIZZA & DINNER

Pizza & dinner

Four pizzerias and restaurants with a gluten-free pizza line of their own, from a pizzeria with three doughs to one that keeps its gluten-free list short on purpose. All four also bake with wheat.

05

Korallo Pizza & Drink

GF-servingPizza & dinner

A pizzeria with three doughs, and one of the three is gluten-free.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site: Β«Utilizziamo impasti speciali a lievitazione naturale, leggeri, digeribili e adatti a ogni esigenza, inclusi quelli gluten free.Β», naturally leavened doughs for every need, gluten-free included.

Order

A pizza on the gluten-free dough.

Watch out

A mixed pizzeria with a wood-fired oven, and their site says nothing about how the gluten-free pizza is kept apart. Ask how it is prepared and baked. Closed on Monday.

Milli Eat & Drink

GF-servingPizza & dinner

A restaurant and pizzeria whose pizza menu has a gluten-free section of its own.

The gluten-free angle

Its own pizza menu has a section of gluten-free pizzas, and says the list is kept shorter than the normal menu on purpose, so they can do their best to keep the products free from contamination.

Order

A pizza from the gluten-free section.

Watch out

Only the pizzas are marked gluten-free; the kitchen menu has no gluten-free marking. The allergen numbers on the menu don’t follow the usual order, so ask about each pizza rather than reading the numbers.

PassΓΉ Ristorante e Pizzeria

GF-servingPizza & dinner

A restaurant and pizzeria with a gluten-free dough made from buckwheat and maize flour, and gluten-free beer on tap.

The gluten-free angle

Its own site: Β«Siamo attenti a tutte le intolleranzeΒ», they pay attention to every intolerance, and Β«sempre spine di birra differenti a rotazione, anche senza glutine!Β», rotating beers on tap, gluten-free too. Its pizza menu (March 2026) has a gluten-free dough, Β«I NOSTRI IMPASTI SENZA GLUTINEΒ», made with buckwheat and maize flour, for €3 extra.

Order

A pizza on the gluten-free dough, with a gluten-free beer.

Watch out

A mixed pizzeria, and their pages say nothing about a separate oven or work area. Ask how the gluten-free pizza is prepared and baked. The gluten-free dough costs €3 extra. Their menu marks the gluten-free dough as made from a frozen product.

Its own menu site has a separate gluten-free menu, updated at the end of August 2026, with plates on gluten-free bread.

Order

Something from the gluten-free menu, such as a plate on gluten-free bread.

Watch out

The gluten-free menu lists fries and other fried bites but says nothing about the fryer. Ask whether there is a fryer just for gluten-free before you order anything fried. Some of their pages still use the old name.

03 Β· Sights and where to eat

Sights, and where to eat nearby

Twelve sights, each with the places from this page closest to it. Walking times are our estimate from the map, rounded to five minutes.

The Castello del Buonconsiglio is closed on Mondays that are not holidays, and free for everyone on the first Sunday of each month from October to March; Torre Aquila costs €2.50 extra, with timed entries and limited places, and booking is advised. MUSE is closed on Mondays except in August, and entry is guaranteed only with a ticket bought online. The Torre Civica is visited only on a one-hour guided tour: 156 steps, no lift. With the Trentino Guest Card, what you get varies by museum: free entry at the Diocesan Museum and the Torre Civica, 30% off at the Castello. Dated this autumn: S.A.S.S. is closed from 1 to 4 October 2026, and Torre Civica tours are suspended from 9 to 11 October during Autumnus, the food and wine festival in the centre (1 to 11 October). The Christmas market runs from 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027 in Piazza Fiera and Piazza Mostra. Torre Vanga, by the bus station, is closed to visitors; MART is in Rovereto, outside this map.

04 Β· Getting around

Getting around

By train from Verona, around the city by bus and cable car, and what the station has. Fares change, so each line carries the date we read it.

From Verona and its airport

  • Regional trains from Verona Porta Nuova to Trento run direct in about 1 hour 2 minutes to 1 hour 24 minutes, for €7.85 one way. Direct trains are frequent through the day, roughly every half hour to hour: Trenitalia’s planner lists 38 on a sample weekday, the first at 05:20 and the last at 22:50. Timetables change, so check the times before you travel.Trenitalia, read 29 September 2026
  • Verona Airlink (ATV) links Verona airport with Verona Porta Nuova station in 15 minutes, every day, every 20 minutes (every 40 minutes at Christmas and New Year), for €7.00, valid 75 minutes. Change there for the train to Trento.ATV, read 29 September 2026
  • Train + bus: Trenitalia sells the train and the Airlink bus on one ticket; choose Β«Verona AeroportoΒ» as your origin on any Trenitalia sales channel. The bus leg adds €7.00 to the train fare. The bus stops at lane E-1 in front of Verona Porta Nuova and at the arrivals exit at the airport.Trenitalia, read 29 September 2026

City buses and cards

  • Trento city ticket (paper) €1.20 for 70 minutes, €1.50 for 120 minutes; day ticket €3.00, valid until midnight. Validate it every time you board. Bought on board it costs €2.00, in cash, for that ride only. Children under 6 travel free with a paying adult. • Mobile tickets cost a little less (€1.10, €1.35, day €2.70), in the apps Dropticket, 360PASS-Hitachi, MioTrentino, MooneyGo-myCicero and OpenMove. On the bus you pay in cash: the operator accepts bank cards on board only on its trains.Trentino Trasporti, read 29 September 2026
  • Trentino Guest Card: included at no extra cost with a stay in participating hotels and other accommodation, as a code in the Mio Trentino app, for up to 20 days. 05 Β· Gluten-free shopping

Gluten-free shopping

For a picnic on Doss Trento or a stocked hotel fridge.

Pharmacies and supermarkets

  • Pharmacies (farmacie): AIC says gluten-free products are found there, but we found no list of which pharmacies keep them on the shelf. If one hasn’t got them, ask whether it can order them for you; some pharmacies take bookings by phone or online for you to collect. Two questions to show: Β«Potete ordinarmi prodotti senza glutine?Β» (can you order gluten-free products for me?) and Β«Quando arrivano?Β» (when will they arrive?). The coeliac vouchers you may read about go only to people resident in Italy, so as a visitor you pay like any other customer.AIC and Farmacie Gluten Free, read 3 October 2026
  • Supermarkets and shops across Italy that sell labelled gluten-free products are on the shops map of our Atlas β†—.How to Gluten Free Atlas, 4 October 2026
  • Supermarket own ranges: Conad Β«AlimentumΒ», Despar Β«Despar Free FromΒ» (not every Free From product is gluten-free, so look for the ones marked senza glutine) and Coop’s national line Β«Bene.Sì».Conad, Despar and Coop, read 29 September 2026
  • Central supermarkets: Eurospar, Via Manci 26/30; Tuday Conad, Piazza S. Maria Maggiore 1, open every day 07:30-22:00; and Conad City, Via Torre Verde 26. Their pages don’t list gluten-free stock, so ask in store.Despar and Conad store pages, read 29 September 2026

What to look for

  • Β«Senza glutineΒ» on a label means no more than 20 mg/kg (EU rule). The crossed-grain symbol (Spiga Barrata) is AIC’s licensed mark on suitable products.AIC, read 29 September 2026
  • For staples, GlutenFreeWorld, the entirely gluten-free shop on this page, is in Gardolo, a bus ride north (closed on Mondays; it also sells organic and lactose-free lines, so read every label). For a cake to take away, Fior di Gusto, the entirely gluten-free gelateria on this page, makes them in season. This page

Stock varies from shop to shop. Check the label of every product, every time.

06 Β· Plan your trip

Plan your trip

Where to base yourself

  • Gardolo: GlutenFreeWorld, the gluten-free shop, is on Via Bolzano in Gardolo (chapter 1).
  • The rest of the city: Fior di Gusto, MaTΓ¬, Cirilli, Korallo, Milli, PassΓΉ, Bouganville and Urban House are spread around Trento. The map link on each card shows the route.

We haven’t checked a Trento hotel breakfast yet, so confirm the gluten-free breakfast when you book. For self-catering, GlutenFreeWorld in chapter 1 sells gluten-free food, and pharmacies (farmacie) carry gluten-free staples too.

The one sentence to say

Say it before ordering, every time, dedicated kitchen or not.

Sono celiaco/a. Non posso mangiare glutine e devo evitare anche la contaminazione con farina di grano, pane, pasta, pizza, briciole e olio di frittura condiviso.

I have coeliac disease. I cannot eat gluten, and I also need to avoid cross-contact with wheat flour, bread, pasta, pizza, crumbs and shared frying oil.

Get the full Italian dining card with the follow-up questions β†’

Two follow-ups that help in Trento. At a pizzeria: Come preparate la pizza senza glutine? Impasto, banco e forno sono separati? (β€œHow do you make the gluten-free pizza? Are the dough, the work surface and the oven kept separate?”). For fried food: C’Γ¨ una friggitrice dedicata al senza glutine? (β€œIs there a fryer just for gluten-free?”)

Good to know

  • β€œSenza glutine” means 20 mg/kg (20 ppm) or less, the EU and Codex threshold. A label that says it, means it.
  • Canederli are bread. Trentino’s dumplings are made from stale bread, often with flour too; ask for a gluten-free first course instead.
  • Polenta is maize, but ask how it’s made. It comes with many Trentino dishes; ask whether it is cooked and served apart from anything floured.
  • An AIC link is a strong signal in a mixed kitchen, not a guarantee. It means the staff have been trained by the Italian coeliac association. Say the sentence anyway.

07 Β· Questions

Eating gluten-free in Trento: common questions

Where can I eat gluten-free in Trento?

The cards are grouped in 3 chapters, β€œEntirely gluten-free: gelato, bakery, deli & a shop”, β€œPizza & dinner” and β€œBrunch & all day”. Each card gives the address, what to order and how we know it. Before you go, check the opening hours, and say you have coeliac disease when you order.

Are there fully gluten-free places in Trento?

In this Trento guide, 4 places are marked β€œβ˜… Dedicated”: three bakeries, kitchens or shops with no gluten in them, GlutenFreeWorld Β· Senza Glutine, MaTΓ¬ bakery and La Gastronomia Senza Glutine Cirilli, and Fior di Gusto, a gelateria where every gelato is gluten-free (ask about the cones, see the card). Each β˜… card says how we know it and when; still say you have coeliac disease when you order.

Are canederli gluten-free in Trento?

The classic ones are not: canederli, the dumplings of Trentino, are made from stale bread, and apple strudel is wrapped in wheat pastry. In this Trento guide, 4 cards name gluten-free pizza under β€œOrder”: Korallo Pizza & Drink (β€œGF-serving”), Milli Eat & Drink (β€œGF-serving”), PassΓΉ Ristorante e Pizzeria (β€œGF-serving”) and Ristorante Pizzeria Bouganville (β€œGF-serving”). Ask whether the gluten-free pizza is baked in its own oven or on its own tray.

How do I ask for gluten-free food in Italian?

In Trento, say this sentence in Italian before you order: β€œSono celiaco/a. Non posso mangiare glutine e devo evitare anche la contaminazione con farina di grano, pane, pasta, pizza, briciole e olio di frittura condiviso.” In English: β€œI have coeliac disease. I cannot eat gluten, and I also need to avoid cross-contact with wheat flour, bread, pasta, pizza, crumbs and shared frying oil.” Say it every time, at a place marked β€œβ˜… Dedicated” too, and then ask how your food is kept apart.

Is Trento safe for coeliacs?

It depends on the kitchen, not the city. Each card says how we know it and when. Say you have coeliac disease at every order, β˜… places included, and ask how your food is kept apart from flour, crumbs and shared fryer oil.

Closures and lost dedicated status are logged as dated facts on the live page, never as judgements. A closed door, a changed menu, a new dedicated place: hello@howtoglutenfree.com or the report button in the app. Readers keep this page alive.

Every listing carries a source and a last-checked date. This guide is a communication and travel aid, not a guarantee, and not medical advice. Kitchens, owners and ways of working change; check at the door.

  • Addresses and dates: HTGF Atlas, read 2 October 2026.
  • Each venue’s gluten-free handling is quoted from its own website or page as we found it; we never print a third party’s claims as our own check.
  • Map links open a Google Maps search for the name and address on file; where a postcode isn’t on file, none is shown.
