Gluten-free fish and chips in London: 9 places

London Β· gluten-free fish and chips
9 fish and chip places in London say on their own websites that they offer gluten-free fish and chips (β). At Hobsonβs (Soho, Bayswater) gluten-free fish goes into separate oil, and Oliverβs in Belsize Park does so on its gluten-free Wednesdays; both warn some cross-contamination may occur. Others serve it on set days only, so check the day and ask about the oil. One more place is listed by a directory or an online map listing, and we haven’t checked it yet. Updated October 2026.
How gluten-free fish and chips works in London
London’s gluten-free fish and chips is spread out: two places in the West End, the rest in neighbourhoods from Belsize Park and Muswell Hill to Herne Hill, Brockley and Eastcote. Several serve it on set days only, and only two describe separate oil, so ask about the oil at each one.
Coeliac UK’s advice on takeaways: chips, or fish in gluten-free batter, are not gluten-free if they’re fried in the same oil as battered food with gluten. Ask about the oil for the chips too, because shops often rotate it. Taking the batter off battered fish doesn’t help, because the fish has already picked up gluten. The NHS lists fish as naturally gluten-free, but not breaded or battered fish.
So ask three things when you order. Is the batter gluten-free? Do the gluten-free fish and the chips go into oil that never sees battered food? And is there a gluten-free night or a dedicated gluten-free fryer? Coeliac UK says some shops have one or the other. In the UK, βgluten-freeβ on a menu means 20 parts per million or less, also for food that isn’t prepacked. Coeliac UK’s Gluten Free Accreditation goes to venues that follow its standards, processes and training; we show it on a card only when the venue’s own site says so.

Questions
Is fish and chips in London gluten-free?
Not as standard: the NHS lists fish as naturally gluten-free, but not battered fish. The places on this page say on their own websites that they offer gluten-free fish and chips or gluten-free batter. Ask for it clearly when you order.
Is gluten-free fish and chips in London safe for coeliacs?
It depends on the oil, not the city. Coeliac UK says chips, or fish in gluten-free batter, are not gluten-free if they’re fried in the same oil as battered food with gluten. Only Hobsonβs and Oliverβs on this page describe separate oil, and both warn that some cross-contamination may occur, so ask about the oil everywhere and say you have coeliac disease.
Where can I get gluten-free fish and chips in central London?
Hobsonβs in Soho cooks its gluten-free fish in separate oil, and The Mayfair Chippy in Mayfair and Knightsbridge offers gluten-free batter on all its fish and chips.
Which London chippies do gluten-free fish and chips on set days?
Oliverβs in Belsize Park on Wednesdays, Brockleyβs Rock in Brockley from Sunday to Thursday, and Pisces in Eastcote on Mondays (their own info, read in October 2026). Olleyβs in Herne Hill says every day on request.
