Gluten-free at the Belfast Christmas Market
The short answer
Belfast Christmas Market comes to Belfast City Hall from 14 November to 22 December. At the stalls, the reliable things are the whole ones: roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, coffee or a pure tea. Waffles, crΓͺpes and most baked and battered stall food are wheat. We haven’t walked this market yet. Off the stalls, no dedicated gluten-free place is within walking distance: the one dedicated baker bakes to order and sells at local markets. A restaurant 5 minutes from the stalls has gluten-free options we’ve read against its own information.

This season’s market
Belfast Christmas Market runs from 14 November to 22 December 2026 at Belfast City Hall, as the organiser, Market Place, prints it. The organiser doesn’t print opening hours, so check the official page before you go. It’s a mixed market, not a gluten-free one, so treat it the way the hub describes.
Getting there: the organiser doesn’t print travel information. Belfast Grand Central Station is about 15 minutes on foot from City Hall (our estimate from the map), and on Friday and Saturday nights late-night buses leave from stops around City Hall (Translink, below).

- Home Restaurant Belfast (gluten-free options), about 5 minutes on foot
Walking times are our estimate from the map. No dedicated gluten-free place is within walking distance; the one dedicated baker sells at markets, see below. Check the opening hours before you go.
What’s likely gluten-free at the stalls, and what isn’t
The same tiers apply here as anywhere, and no stall named. Roasted chestnuts, mulled wine in your mug, and coffee or a pure tea are gluten-free by their nature, if they’re served without cross-contact. Roasted almonds are ask-first: sugar, almonds and cinnamon only, or something added after roasting, and are they open beside other sweets? Waffles, crΓͺpes and doughnuts need their own labelled flour and a clean iron or fryer to be genuinely gluten-free, and most aren’t. A plain grilled sausage or burger patty taken off its roll, with the marinade and the grill asked about first, is the reasonable order. We haven’t sourced a UK trade definition of the sausage the way we have for Germany’s Bratwurst, so ask rather than assume.

Where to eat a real gluten-free meal in Belfast
We mark each place by how we know it: a genuinely dedicated kitchen, a place we’ve read against its own gluten-free information, or a listing we haven’t checked yet. Except at Becca’s Cakes and Bakes, always tell them you have coeliac disease and confirm how they handle it on the day.
The numbered pin matches the numbered place below. Becca’s Cakes and Bakes has no fixed address to pin, and the places we haven’t checked yet aren’t pinned.
β Dedicated gluten-free
- Becca’s Cakes and Bakes, bakery. Its own site says every single bake is 100% gluten-free. It bakes to order and sells at local markets; check its Instagram for market days

Getting there and staying
From Belfast International Airport: buses leave from the front of the terminal building. Translink’s Airport Express 300 runs to Belfast Grand Central Station 7 days a week, every 15 minutes at peak times on Monday to Friday (Belfast International Airport). Tickets are also sold at Translink’s airport ticket machines at Belfast Grand Central Station and at the airport bus stop (Translink).
From Belfast City Airport: the Airport Express 600 runs from the front of the terminal to Belfast Grand Central Station every 20 minutes at peak times, and the journey takes around 10 minutes. All Translink Airport Express buses are low floor and wheelchair accessible. The train from Sydenham means crossing a footbridge with steps, so the airport advises against it if steps are hard for you; a courtesy bus to Sydenham Halt is available on request (Belfast City Airport).
Belfast Grand Central Station: open from 04:30 to midnight, with tactile paths through the station, fully accessible toilets, a Changing Places room, hearing loops and staff assistance during opening hours. It’s a quiet station with no audio announcements, so watch the screens or ask the staff (Translink).
Around town: on Metro buses, contactless costs Β£2.30 for the first journey and Β£1.70 for the second, further journeys are free, and the day is capped at Β£4.00. On Friday and Saturday nights in 2026, late-night Metro buses leave from stops around City Hall, for example the N2 from Donegall Square North at midnight and 02:00 (Translink).
Over Christmas: on 1 October 2026 Translink hadn’t published its Christmas and New Year timetables yet, so check its journey planner before you travel in December.
Prices and timetables as printed on 1 October 2026; check them before you travel.
Staying: We don’t yet have a gluten-free breakfast we can vouch for at a Belfast stay, so we don’t name one here.
FAQ
What can I eat at the Belfast Christmas Market if I’m coeliac?
The reliable things are the whole ones: roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, coffee or a pure tea. Waffles, crΓͺpes and most stall food are wheat, so ask before anything fried or battered.
Are there dedicated gluten-free places in Belfast?
Yes. Becca’s Cakes and Bakes says on its own site that every single bake is 100% gluten-free. It bakes to order and sells at local markets; check its Instagram for market days.
What are the opening hours of the Belfast Christmas Market?
The organiser prints the dates, 14 November to 22 December 2026, but not the opening hours, so check its page before you go.
Is mulled wine gluten-free?
By recipe, mulled wine is wine, sugar and spices. Ask about a ready spice mix before you assume.
