Is pudding gluten-free? It depends which pudding you mean
It depends on the pudding. In the US, “pudding” usually means a creamy dessert thickened with corn starch or eggs, which is often gluten-free. In the UK, “pudding” can mean any dessert, and many classics are made with flour.
What to check
- Creamy puddings and pudding mixes: usually corn starch, but read the ingredients.
- Sponge puddings, sticky toffee pudding, bread and butter pudding and Christmas pudding contain wheat unless made gluten-free.
- Yorkshire pudding and black pudding are savoury and usually contain wheat flour or other cereals.
- Rice pudding is usually gluten-free; check any topping.
