Gluten-free Sunday roast in the UK: 14 pubs

UK Β· gluten-free Sunday roast
14 pubs in England and Wales say on their own websites that they serve a gluten-free Sunday roast or a Sunday menu without gluten ingredients. The Caunton Beck near Newark calls its kitchen 100% gluten-free and Coeliac UK accredited (β ). 11 Brunning & Price pubs say they’re Coeliac UK accredited, and on the Sunday menu we read the roast chicken and lamb are marked gluten-free. Gomshall Mill in Surrey and The Gate Inn in Derbyshire have separate Sunday menus without gluten ingredients (β). Ask about the gravy and the Yorkshire pudding. Updated October 2026.
How a gluten-free Sunday roast works
A Sunday roast is roast meat with roast potatoes, vegetables, gravy and often a Yorkshire pudding. The NHS lists meat, vegetables and potatoes as naturally gluten-free, but names gravies and sauces among the foods to avoid unless they’re gluten-free versions. On the Sunday menu we read at one of the pubs below, the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding lists cereals containing gluten and is only marked as adaptable.
So ask three things when you book. Is the gravy gluten-free? Is there a gluten-free Yorkshire pudding, or does the roast come without one? And are the roast potatoes cooked in a tray or fat shared with anything that has gluten, such as stuffing? The NHS warns that cross-contamination can happen when gluten-free foods and foods with gluten are prepared together or served with the same utensils.
The 14 pubs on this page say on their own websites that they serve a gluten-free Sunday roast or a Sunday menu without gluten ingredients, and each card quotes them. One kitchen calls itself 100% gluten-free. 12 pubs say they hold Coeliac UK’s Gluten Free Accreditation, which Coeliac UK gives to venues that follow its standards, processes and training. In the UK, βgluten-freeβ on a menu means 20 parts per million or less, also for food that isn’t prepacked.

Questions
Where can I get a gluten-free Sunday roast in the UK?
The 14 pubs on this page say so on their own websites: The Caunton Beck near Newark (a 100% gluten-free kitchen), Gomshall Mill in Surrey, The Gate Inn near Matlock, and 11 Brunning & Price pubs in Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, north Wales and Surrey. Book ahead and say you need the gluten-free roast.
Is a gluten-free Sunday roast safe for coeliacs?
It depends on the gravy, the Yorkshire pudding and how the kitchen keeps things apart, not on the word on the menu. The NHS lists gravies among the foods to avoid unless they’re gluten-free versions, and warns that cross-contamination can happen when foods are prepared together. The Caunton Beck says its whole kitchen is gluten-free; everywhere else, say you have coeliac disease and ask about the gravy, the Yorkshire pudding and the roast potatoes.
Is Yorkshire pudding gluten-free?
Not as standard. On the Brunning & Price Sunday menu we read, the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding lists cereals containing gluten and is marked gluten free adaptable, while the roast chicken and lamb are marked gluten-free. Ask whether the pub makes a gluten-free Yorkshire pudding.
What does Coeliac UK accreditation mean for a pub?
Coeliac UK gives its Gluten Free Accreditation to venues that follow its standards, processes and training. The Caunton Beck and the 11 Brunning & Price pubs say on their own sites that they hold it. It isn’t the same as a fully gluten-free kitchen: of the pubs on this page, only The Caunton Beck says that.
