Gluten-Free Portugal

7 hand-picked, 6 dedicated gluten-free · evidence dated, never guaranteedNewest evidence: 27 September 2026

Portugal runs on bread and pastry, which makes a coeliac's first morning in Lisbon or Porto feel harder than it is. The good news: the national coeliac association, the Associação Portuguesa de Celíacos (APC), certifies restaurants, cafés and bakeries, and five of the six dedicated places below carry that certification, according to their own websites. We read each one on 27 September 2026.

Words that help: sem glúten (gluten-free), farinha de trigo (wheat flour) and Sou celíaco / Sou celíaca (I have coeliac disease). The pastel de nata and the bread roll of a bifana are normally made with wheat; ask for them only where the whole kitchen is gluten-free.

Before you go

Kitchens change: menus, owners, fryers, staff. Evidence dates tell you when we last saw proof, not what is true today. Always confirm directly with the venue at the time of your visit, say explicitly that it’s coeliac disease, and trust your own questions over any listing, including ours.
