Dedicated gluten-free fish and chips in the UK: 5 places
This guide is now part of Gluten-free fish and chips in the UK β

UK Β· fully gluten-free chip shops
5 fish and chip places in the UK say on their own websites or Facebook page that their whole menu is gluten-free (β ): Nano in Brighton, Harbourside Gluten Free on Plymouth’s Barbican, Fisk & Frite in Bristol, Wicked Fish at Spitalfields Market in London and Al-leeβs Gluten Free Kitchen in Southport. Kate’s Plaice, a chip van in North Devon, says the same; it moves, so it has no pin. Updated October 2026.
How a fully gluten-free chip shop differs
Most chip shops that offer gluten-free fish also fry battered fish with gluten, so gluten-free fish there depends on the oil. Coeliac UK’s advice on takeaways: chips, or fish in gluten-free batter, are not gluten-free if they’re fried in the same oil as battered food with gluten. Our town pages list those shops and the questions to ask.
The 5 places on this page are different: each says on its own website (Al-leeβs Gluten Free Kitchen: its own Facebook page) that its whole menu is gluten-free, and each card quotes it. Kate’s Plaice, a chip van, says βWe have a full traditional fish and chip menu, everything is gluten freeβ. It moves between stops (βWe cover North Devon with our van, serving spots in Bideford, Barnstaple, Westward ho! and surrounding areasβ), so it has no number and no pin; its own pages give the week’s stops.
Even in a fully gluten-free shop, say you have coeliac disease when you order, and check the shop’s own pages before a long trip: menus, opening days and suppliers change. Coeliac UK’s Gluten Free Accreditation goes to venues that follow its standards, processes and training; we show it on a card only when the venue’s own site says so. In the UK, βgluten-freeβ on a menu means 20 parts per million or less, also for food that isn’t prepacked.
