Is einkorn gluten-free? No, it’s wheat

No. Einkorn contains gluten. It’s the oldest cultivated wheat (farro piccolo in Italy, Einkorn in German).

What to know

• You may read that einkorn’s gluten is “different” or “easier to digest”. For coeliac disease that doesn’t matter: einkorn is wheat, and wheat is excluded.
• Einkorn flour, bread, pasta and crackers are sold in health-food shops. Read the label: the word wheat may not appear, only einkorn.
