Is bacon gluten-free? Usually, check glazes and the griddle
Usually, yes. Plain bacon is pork cured with salt, sometimes sugar and preservatives.
What to check
- Glazes and marinades: some contain soy sauce, malt or beer. Read the label.
- Bacon-flavoured snacks and “bacon bits” are processed products; check the ingredients.
- Eating out: bacon shares the griddle with pancakes and toast, and bacon rolls come on bread. Ask for a clean pan.
- Sausages, often served alongside, frequently contain rusk or breadcrumbs.
