Gluten-free at Oktoberfest 2026: what works on the Wiesn and what doesn’t
The short answer: there is no gluten-free beer on the Wiesn. Some food can work if you ask the right questions. Oktoberfest 2026 runs from 19 September to 4 October.
Why there is no gluten-free beer at Oktoberfest
The tents pour only beer from the Munich breweries, and none of them brews a gluten-free one so far. The Munich coeliac self-help group (Zöliakie-Selbsthilfegruppe München/Südbayern) puts it plainly on its Oktoberfest 2026 page: there is “(still) no gluten-free beer on the Wiesn”. If anyone in a tent tells you otherwise, ask to see the bottle and read the label.
What can work for food
Every year the self-help group publishes a list of gluten-free options on the grounds, tracked down on site by its members, with a map (in German): Oktoberfest 2026: gluten-free options. It is the most current source we know of. Here is its 2026 list as the group printed it. We pass it on with its source and date; we have not checked the tents or stalls ourselves.
The group’s own first line, for every tent: look for the allergen labelling, or ask for it.
Tents
- Ammer Hühner- und Entenbraterei: chicken, duck, potato salad, potato dumplings with red cabbage, gluten-free rolls, fries, loaded fries, several desserts (chocolate, rice pudding, red berry pudding). Labelled allergen menu on request.
- Fischer-Vroni: Steckerlfisch, grilled separately over charcoal; potato salad and coleslaw. Good allergen labelling.
- Marstall: for example Feinschmecker-Pfandl, roast ox and beef roulades, and many more dishes marked on its labelled menu.
- Glöckle Wirt: potato and pumpkin curry, salads, sausages, Brotzeit platter. Labelled allergen menu.
- Haxenbraterei: pork knuckle, sausages, potato salad, coleslaw, potato dumplings. Good allergen labelling.
Stalls
- Brotzeit stall with gluten-free labelling (opposite the Käfer tent, at the entrance to the Paulaner beer garden): gluten-free Semmeln and Brezn from Resch & Frisch, baked separately; cheese, fish or Leberkäs, filled in a separate place.
- Altbayrische Spezialitäten (next to the Ochsenbraterei): cheese spätzle, schnitzel roll, fried-chicken burger.
- Bauers Ofenkartoffel (in front of Kufflers Weinzelt): baked potatoes with home-made dips, salmon and shrimps.
- Kartoffelhaus (opposite the Marstall tent), Kartoffelglück (opposite Fischer-Vroni) and Frische Kartoffelchips (opposite the Löwenbräu tent): potato dishes with dips, and fries. Not all the dips are gluten-free; ask for a paper tray if needed.
Worth knowing: many gluten-free rolls in Germany are made with gluten-free wheat starch, which the 20 ppm rule allows. If you avoid it, ask what the roll is made of.

What to ask in the tent
- Ask for the allergen information. In the EU it has to be available for unpackaged food too (Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011). In a tent that usually means the server fetches the allergen card or asks the kitchen.
- Ask how gluten-free items are stored and handed over. A gluten-free pretzel from the same basket as the wheat ones has had cross-contact.
- Anything from a shared fryer is out. Chips fried in the same oil as breaded food pick up gluten.
- Sauces are the hidden source. Roast gravy is often thickened with flour, and Obatzda (the cheese spread) often has beer in it. Ask about the sauce, not just the meat.
Our German coeliac card says it in one sentence when the tent gets loud.
The plan B that always works
Eat properly beforehand and bring sealed snacks. Mind the bag rule: bags and backpacks may hold three litres at most (20 x 15 x 10 cm), details on oktoberfest.de. For drinks, water and soft drinks are the easy choice. For restaurants in the city, before or after the Wiesn: our Munich guide and the HTGF Atlas map.
A fully gluten-free Oktoberfest
In past years the German Coeliac Society (DZG) and the Munich self-help group held their own, fully gluten-free Oktoberfest in Aschheim near Munich, most recently in 2023. We haven’t found a 2026 date; current events are listed by the DZG.
In Hamburg, Restaurant Quintessenz holds a fully gluten-free Oktoberfest buffet with gluten-free beer on Saturday 10 October 2026: all details in the events calendar.
